Abstract :
Analysis and design of zero-voltage transition fourth-order buck converter is presented here. Overcoming drawbacks of hard switched FBUCK converter, it gives decreased current stress, soft switching of main and auxiliary switch with wider load range and lower circulating current leading to reduction in current rating and thus size of auxiliary circuit elements. The ZVT-FOBC is proposed and its general operation is explained with analysis of the steady-state operation. The equations derived from steady-state analysis are used in design procedure. A 50 W, 100 kHz ZVT-FBUCK experimental prototype is built to test the design concept. Experimental results comply with the simulation and analytical estimates.
