  • Abstract
Shows the integration of a fieldbus system into an open environment, that uses middleware technology to increase the bus devices´ functionality and their accessibility, especially by means of the Internet. The Java Intelligent Network Infrastructure, a Java based approach to ease difficulties involved when designing distributed systems, has been chosen as the middleware layer. The European Installation Bus, a system mainly used in home and building automation, serves as a representant for up-to-date fieldbus technology. Since the infrastructure of a typical EIB installation does not fully comply with the environmental assumptions of Jini, we propose a proxy-oriented system architecture running on a Jini/fieldbus gateway
