Abstract :
The design and fabrication of a single chip image rejecting downconverter for the 2.44 GHz-frequency band is presented. The chip comprises an RF preamplifier, a phasing type image reject mixer, an IF preamplifier, a two-stage ring oscillator-type VCO and a prescaler. Except for the power supply and the frequency tuning voltage, no external components are required for basic operation. Chip size and power consumption are 3 mm/sup 2/ and 0.5 W, respectively. An image rejection of 33 dB is achieved over a 130 to 260 MHz IF bandwidth. With a simple input symmetrizing and matching network, a conversion gain of 34 dB and a noise figure of 6.5 dB are measured. The device is a prototype and has been produced with Triquint´s QED/A enhancement-depletion process using standard design rules.<>
