Abstract :
The response of morphological operators to sinusoidal input is studied and compared to that of the standard median filter. It is shown that the morphological operators have performance characteristics that are comparable to those of finite impulse response hybrid median filters. It is further shown that for both the morphological operators and the median filter, a sampling rate significantly higher than the Nyquist rate is needed for the input sine wave to avoid being severely attenuated
