Abstract
We present a numerical investigation on the propagation of chirp-free sub-nanosecond pulses at 1.06 μm in a nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with large normal group velocity dispersion and small third-order dispersion. The simulation results show that distortionless stretching of input pulses can be achieved by engineering the dispersion parameters of the PCF. It is found that the temporal broadening ratio is strongly dependent on the peak power of the input pulse and the propagation distance. This pulse stretching scheme based on PCF may find application in optical communication and high power fiber-laser systems.
