Vehicles powered by electric motors are represented by electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). A method is presented for driving a vehicle using an electric motor. Permanent magnet synchronous motors have been more often used on the most advanced EVs and HEVs. This paper describes the background and the characteristics of permanent magnet synchronous motors for driving vehicles, and the prospects for future development
