Abstract :
Presented in this paper are two new adaptive prediction techniques for lossless, DPCM based, image compression. The first prediction scheme is derived from weighted median filter theory and extends on the median adaptive prediction (MAP) technique first presented by Martucci (1990). The second prediction technique is context modelling based and determines the optimum prediction by establishing the dominance of a particular predictor for each image context. The paper draws a direct comparison between MAP and the two new methods, and also between median predictor selection and context based predictor selection
