Abstract :
The main purpose of this paper is to identify the optimal location of the unified power flow controller UPFC in electrical power systems. The proposed algorithm is based on the steady state injection model of UPFC, a continuation power flow and an optimal power flow. The problem is formulated to find the best location of UPFC in order to minimize the generation cost function and the investment on the UPFC device. Digital simulation studies on the IEEE 14-bus test system are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
