Abstract
Electric vehicles (EV) are becoming a potential alternative to conventional gasoline powered vehicles. Nevertheless, the cruising range is still limited due to the used battery systems and is, especially for EVs used in commercial applications, not satisfying. A possible improvement is the integration of a range extender system into the electrified drive train of the vehicle. In this contribution the development of a PEM fuel cell system is presented that can be used as a range extender for commercial vehicles.
