Abstract
Video provisioning over mobile networks is a promising application of the third generation telecommunications. The high-speed, low-latency, and large-capacity properties of the LTE network will further enhance video service quality and expand usage domains. However, the traditional video service model utilizes mobile operator´s current radio links only as traffic tunnel to deliver video to subscribers. The mobile operator is under high pressure to enhance network capacity but almost no additional revenues due to flat rate billing plan. In this paper, we present the flexible local wireless connectivity with third parties or home devices and its harmonization with mobile links enable a Ubiquitous Mobile Video (UMV) service model. This model provides methods of accessing to mobile video contents, managing digital rights, licensing and billing, and creating value chain. It aims at enriching the experience of subscriber´s delivery and sharing of mobile video and open new revenue opportunities for mobile carriers, content providers and other third parties. UMV architecture utilizes the local connections provided by Wireless USB and Home AP as two use cases.
