Abstract
A digital frequency synthesizer which uses a phase accumulator as a reference generator is described. An auxiliary phase detector is proposed to remove the low-frequency components which degrade the purity of the output signal in conventional frequency synthesizers. The high reference frequency, which offers a high loop gain and the enhanced characteristics of the phase-frequency detector lead to significantly improved frequency switching. A complete analysis of this digital frequency synthesizer is presented
