Abstract :
Two sequence estimation algorithms for use in the digital compact cassette (DCC) system are investigated. Their performance is determined by means of a computer simulation. Experimental data is analysed. In the DCC system, a binary 8-to-10 modulation (ETM) code is used. The ETM code is a running digital sum (RDS) constrained code. A fully-fledged Viterbi algorithm, realizing maximum likelihood sequence estimation, and a suboptimal Viterbi algorithm, based on the RDS trellis are considered
