Abstract :
We discuss the concept of a numerical anechoic chamber, that is a procedure for measuring the field radiated by an antenna or scattered from a target without having to place the object under study in an open-field space over a reflecting ground or in a chamber equipped with absorbing walls. What is needed is the capacity to measure the electric and magnetic fields, in steady conditions, all over a closed surface surrounding the object. We explain the principle, then discuss the experimental constraints and limitations and some numerical issues
