Abstract
This paper proposes rotor flux barriers of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) to minimize additional losses caused by harmonics of flux density. To obtain sinusoidal flux distribution in air gap, a flux barrier shaped like a rib is introduced and an equivalent magnetic circuit is employed to design the barriers shape. Finally an IPMSM with the determined barrier is analyzed by FE-method. From the results, it is verified that a proposed rotor considerably reduces the harmonic losses.
