Abstract :
Network technologies have been widely used in high energy physics experiments. In particular, the technologies are of great use for event building and many event builders employ that. Many of the systems employ standard protocols. However, a network in an event builder has a unique data flow, and, then, packet losses occur in the network. The packet loses make difficulty to quantitatively design the network. In order to solve the problem, we have developed a novel protocol for event building with simple mechanisms. By the simplicity of the mechanism, we can model the system with queuing theory and analyze it. We verified the model with a test system. Measured values are in good agreement with calculated results from the model. Moreover, the protocol can be implemented on a small hardware device such as a field programmable gate array (FPGA). We are able to construct a high performance system with the protocol
