Abstract
This paper presents a review of several important diagnostic techniques for power system electromagnetic transients. They include numerical simulation with EMTP/EMTDC which provides a flexible method of studying transients under various system conditions off line, as well as methods based on expert systems, neural networks, fuzzy sets, and wavelets developed to diagnose power system transients. Characteristics of each method in diagnosing power system transients are discussed in this paper
