Abstract :
White Gaussian noise(WGN) generator is widely used in performance tests for satellite communication systems because WGN is omnipresent. This paper proposes a two-stage parallel digital hardware generator of WGN stressing on crest factor. A parallel correlation-eliminated Shift-Register Generator (SRG) is proposed in the stage of white uniformed noise(WUN) generation. And the stage of transformation from WUN to WGN is realized by an improved mapping table controlled by crest factor. This paper investigates many noise source products and concludes detailed design criterions, in which crest factor and Gaussian nature are extremely important. Compared with Additive Lagged-Fibonacci Generator (ALFG) and the conventional correlation-eliminated SRG, our method uses much fewer hardware resources and lowers the requirement of synchronous clock. Experiments show our improved mapping table makes the measured values of crest factor reach the preset. The result noise passes the goodness of fit test of normality and performs sharp auto-correlation in zero.
