Abstract
Current advanced driver assistant systems address a majority of accident-prone situations in everyday traffic. Nevertheless, urban intersections as well as inter-urban intersections are still hot spots for accidents. Providing an assistant system that handles intersection scenarios will have a significant impact on accident statistics. The European funded project INTERSAFE-2 researches the requirements for such systems and provides solutions for several accident-relevant situations. In this paper, we give a closer look on the lower application level that copes with the sensor data fusion and builds up a reliable environment model of the intersection. We present intermediate results of this process referred to as intersection reconstruction. Achievements and findings are summarized that have been gained in the first half of the project.
