Abstract :
Since most loads in electrical distribution systems are inductive, power factor correction through the application of capacitors is the natural choice. However, the capacitor installation can create additional problems, because of harmonic pollution and natural resonance. To avoid these problems, this paper proposes a new anti-resonance active system for power capacitors. The proposed active system is composed of a power electronics current converter connected in series with the power factor capacitors. This will ensure that the power capacitors have low harmonic content, avoiding the damage caused by harmonic resonance or distorted utility voltage. Some results are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed system.
