Research and practice on constructing the new digital language laboratory

This paper focuses on the construction of a new software-only digital language laboratory by describing the essential properties and the basic functions of the digital language laboratories, and analyzing the characteristics of several different construction models. The new software-only digital language lab is established by using TCP/IP Ethernet as fundamental network architecture, the PC terminal as language learning device, and configuring the software of language laboratory teaching system and multimedia devices to form a multi-functional foreign language teaching network. Practice shows that software-only and digital solutions would become main trend of the language laboratory gradually.
