Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The software engineering laboratory (SEL) at Goddard space flight center has determined five key benefits to the collection of software metrics. The benefits are: (1) they provide a keener understanding of the specific software development environment; (2) they add support to management of active development projects; (3) they produce a foundation for planning future projects; (4) they provide a basis for adopting development practices and/or guidelines, and (5) they produce evidence toward assessment of applied software technology.
