A cyclotron project for medical and research usage at Jožef Stefan Institute

In Slovenia there is no cyclotron facility which would allow to produce radio-pharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography. We are currently designing the cyclotron center which would beside producing radio-pharmaceuticals also enable cyclotron centered basic research. Several options are being considered, which would allow to use the accelerated beams for use in nuclear physics in connection with the existing tandetron facility. In addition research and development of new radio-pharmaceuticals is one of the design key issues. In this contribution the system requirements and the design of the facility will be discussed.
