Abstract
The dynamic behavior of an arc furnace directly connected to an electric network is analyzed using a novel Newton technique for the time domain acceleration of the convergence to the limit cycle. The periodic steady-state solution is obtained for the complete network using the brute force (BF) approach and the Newton numerical differentiation (ND) method. A comparison is made between both methods in terms of computational effort (number of full cycles) and numerical precision for locating the limit cycle. A harmonic analysis is carried-out for the entire network
