Abstract :
In this work, the size and weight of a high power factor three-phase converter with soft commutation is optimized with respect to the frequency of operation. As a work strategy, the losses of the active elements of the converter are calculated (diodes, switches), with the intention of determining the volume of the heat sink, then the volume vs. frequency of the passive components (capacitors, inductors and transformers) is determined. The total volume as a function of frequency is presented graphically to determine the minimum volume and the optimum frequency of operation. Minimizing the size and weight of the converters allows their use in places with limited spaces like ships, airplanes and so on
