  • Abstract
Using of multiple Coulomb scattering of cosmic ray muons is an attractive way lor detection of hidden materials. lHEP Protvino group is constructing large-scale prototype to make careful investigation of this subject. At a preliminary stage we have assembled the simplified 1-D prototype to test the concept. The prototype consists of 4 modules (bundles) of 30 mm (OD) drift tubes, top and bottom pairs of modules detect incoming and outgoing muon tracks respectively. Set of runs with different targets was performed. The results show that lead and sleel targets can be detected with few lim precision in X-direction, lead and steel targets of the same shape are distinguished at the moderate number of incoming muons.
