Abstract
Joint power control and optimal beamforming (JPCOB) algorithms are very promising techniques in order to implement MIMO configurations in WCDMA systems as, for example, 3G. In this paper we have used a JPCOB algorithm that supports multiple antennas in the node B, but with different arrangements of the antenna array position: we compare the classic approach of a central location in contrast with a new distributed configuration. For both cell configurations a multiple access interference (MAI) model has been proposed based on power delay profile (PDP) of the physical channel. Different code assignment schemes based on this MAI model have been proposed in order to increase cell capacity. Simulation results have shown that schemes that minimize total MAI inside the cell can improve probability of admission more than 10% for medium load with respect to the natural order assignment of OVSF codes
