Abstract :
This paper addresses the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for supporting the marginalized groups and for reducing the digital divide. The Korean government has made many efforts to bridge digital opportunity. This paper inspects these works for reducing the digital divide from this standpoint. The Korean government has performed information education for the whole nation since 2000. Furthermore, for systematic and comprehensive performances, Korean government enacted the law regarding the closing of digital divide in 2001, and set up the 1st master plan (2001-2005) and the 2nd master plan (2006-2010) as national plans. This paper discusses the implements mentioned above, current situations and the impact that resulted from these endeavors. Furthermore, this paper intends to share some experiences within the above plans. This research therefore addresses policy for expansion in digital opportunity by using a case study of Korea.
