Abstract :
The transmit power spectrum is tightly limited by the regulatory spectral mask in ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. Hence, pulse shape design is necessary in order to achieve optimal spectrum utilization, spectral mask compatibility, and coexistence with other wireless services. In this paper, we propose a novel technique for the design of a convex finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The filter is used to efficiently obtain optimal waveforms that satisfy the spectral mask and maximize the spectrum utilization efficiency in terms of both, the bandwidth, and power allowed by the spectral mask. In addition, it must be noted that the length of the filter is an imperative parameter in our design.
