Abstract
In the paper a concept of generator for ship electric network based on squirrel cage machine driven by propeller shaft is proposed. Electric energy generated by a squirrel cage machine is double converted because of variable shaft speed. Problems of sensorless control of generator as well as specific starting and initial excitation procedure were analyzed. Presented results of simulation investigations were validated by laboratory experiment.
