Abstract :
Vergence movements and higher resolution around the fovea (point of attention) are characteristics of the human visual system. It has been shown that spatially varying distribution of pixels is indeed useful for better depth perception with stereo. In this work we discuss how existing stereo image compression algorithms can be improved by incorporating vergence and spatially varying sensing. Tests are being conducted with head-mounted displays to verify the concepts introduced in this work
