Abstract :
In tele-communication via WAN, the existence of participant by transmission of a video in real scene is important. In addition, we consider that non-verbal communication such as eye-to-eye contact and gesture play an important role. In order to realize realistic communication between remote places, the display of video image in remote site with the large-scale screen is effective. However, the video image by wide-area display using a projector and large screen is low-resolution, and sufficient presence is not obtained. In this paper, we have constructed tele-immersive environment with scalable tiled displays wall and study on the possibility of realistic communication. We have implemented an application to display high-resolution real video streaming, and realized to display by setting parallel transmission video images captured by 2 sets of cameras on tiled displays wall in remote place. Moreover, we have proposed the technique for automatic switching of transmission video in remote communication by the estimation of face direction from participant´s video with image-recognition technique in order to realize effective remote communication method between multi-point remote sites.
