Abstract :
Physical contact between head and tape occurs during start/stop and occasionally during use. The contact of the head and tape results in wear of both materials. Tribology plays a central role in determining the performance and life of tapes and the associated equipment. In the present investigation, hardness, elastic modulus and scratch resistance of two particulate magnetic tapes A and B with different binder and head cleaning agents (HCA) were studied using a nanoindenter with microscratching capability.
