Abstract
Small size VRLA cells are typically designed in multi-cell monoblock configurations. Although a few manufacturers have marketed VRLA products with designs that share gas space, ordinarily known as common headspace, the fear of cell imbalances developing has prevented such designs from being widely adopted. Use of gas recombining catalysts enhances the performance and life expectancy of VRLA cells. Their use in common headspace configurations offers lower cost and hence better value to the consumer. Performance and life data are presented to show the advantage of using catalysts in such configurations
