Abstract
Foveation is a biologically inspired signal processing method that can substantially reduce the storage and transmission size of imagery without reducing pertinent information content. By varying the spatial resolution, information can be preserved in areas of interest while lower resolution in the periphery reduces image storage size. Herein, we present an adaptive method for adjusting the parameters of foveation to maintain correlation between a target image and an image corrupted with noise.
