Abstract
This paper presents guidelines developed by Comisión Federal de Electricidad, the national utility of Mexico, to improve and standardize generator protection through a better understanding of generator protection performance during normal operation and fault conditions. Based on the results of simulations and field experiences, we propose setting guidelines and improved protection schemes for loss-of-field (40) and stator ground fault (64G) protection that take advantage of the flexibility of multifunction generator protection relays.
