Abstract :
This paper presents an innovative model of the five-phase squirrel-cage induction machines which accounts for the spatial distributions of the stator and bar windings thereby reflecting the higher order components in the performance characteristics. The winding function approach and appropriate reference frame transformations enable the analytical calculation of the parameters of the fundamental and third harmonic parameters of the equivalent circuit. The 2-D air-gap flux density which was only calculated using the Finite Element Method is determined by the method presented in this paper. Some simulation results are also presented.
