Abstract :
The convergence of telecom, datacom and multimedia systems (the New Telecoms World) has slightly changed the demands on powering applications. As cost optimization is a major issue in the New Telecoms World, different power shedding levels have been introduced for different loads. These levels require disconnection/reconnection devices that shall operate autonomously independent from the mains. The introduction of such devices shall however not affect the availability of the total system: the reconnection of one of the loads shall not affect the operation of another load, by producing transients on the system voltage; the disconnection/reconnection devices shall not be overloaded etc. The article describes a new system topology that matches the new requirements without deteriorating the availability of the system
