Abstract :
In this paper, a novel corner-truncated patch scheme is described to enhance the operation bandwidth of the open slot antenna for UWB applications. By truncating two corners from the rectangular patch, the bandwidth enhancement of the proposed open slot antenna is well realized. From the simulation and measurement results, it is shown that the corner-truncated patch scheme is an excellent approach, which can be used to make the proposed antenna match well over an enhanced impedance bandwidth of 10.45 GHz (2.35~12.80 GHz), or about 138% for a -10 dB return loss. In addition, a parametric study has been investigated to understand the effects of the truncated corners and to optimize the performance of the proposed antenna.
