Abstract :
This paper describes a newly developed static negative-phase sequence current (NPSC) compensator which is applied to rotary frequency converters (50/60 Hz) feeding 60 Hz electric power to the Tokaido Sinkansen in the 50 Hz power system area of Japan. The basic principle of compensation of a NPSC is generating another NPSC in the opposite phase of the first NPSC which should be compensated using thyristor controlled reactors and fixed capacitors. In addition to the principle of NPS compensation, characteristics of the compensation circuit, the control algorithm using microcomputer, a digital simulation study and operating experience, in an actual system are described
