Abstract
The first Static Var Compensator (SVC) for utility purpose in Finland has been installed to Finnish electricity transmission network. The primary purpose of the SVC is to detect and damp electromechanical interarea oscillations in the network. This paper presents the planning and design aspects of the SVC, the structure of the power oscillation damping control, and the test results of the control system.
