Abstract :
There are over 1500 organizations functioning directly under the Government of India; in addition, similar setups are available in 25 states in the Union. Overall, over 4 million personnel are engaged in day-to-day activities of the Union Government involved directly or indirectly, spanning over a large spectrum of activities. With the concept of e-governance, the process of standardization could be considered as the best candidate with respect to the activities of the Union Government. Standardization of the multi-dimensional activities of government would help not only itself by setting its house in a proper and organized manner, but would help every citizen of the nation by providing instant information. It should be noted that it is not just providing "the right information at the right time" but many other services which citizens expect from their respective governments. It is time for everyone to look beyond their individual benefits and give a strong thought to what could be done to revolutionize government services, thereby enhancing the common benefit of society. It is necessary to take into account aspects such as environment, trade practices, interest of human mankind, existing technological developments, etc.
