Abstract :
This paper presents a brief review of Z-source converter. This converter employs a unique impedance network to couple the converter main circuit to the power source thereby overcoming the limitations of the traditional converters and provides a novel power conversion concept. This new converter topology is examined with Unified Power Flow Controller(UPFC) and a simulation study was carried out in MATLAB-Simulink. The results of simulation indicate that Z-source converter(ZSC) can be a good alternative to Voltage Source Converters(VSC). Further investigations are being carried out to assess its suitability and its superiority for UPFC applications.
