Abstract :
In this paper, pulse compression techniques in fiber and their applications for telecom and non-telecom are introduced. In particular, the external modulation and gain-switched semiconductor laser diode generating 10∼20 ps optical pulse trains which could be compressed down to sub-picoseconds by the recently developed fiber compressor are demonstrated. This scheme is unique in the sense that one can widely tune not only the repetition rate, but also pulse width and wavelength.
