Abstract :
The implementation of an integrated starter/generator into vehicles with a conventional drive train is an effective way to create a hybrid electric vehicle. These vehicle configurations offer a high potential in fuel reduction, but they require a suitable energy management (EM) strategy. This paper shows that typical vehicle characteristics determine the general behavior of the EM algorithm. Furthermore, it is shown that an optimal strategy exists without predicting the future vehicle speed. This strategy is directly suitable for on-line vehicle implementation. Simulation results illustrate the correctness of the strategy and provide insight into the expected fuel profits
