Abstract :
A novel electromechanical converter - electrical variable transmission (EVT) is introduced. EVT comprises two concentric induction motors and two inverters and is suitable for hybrid electric vehicles. Firstly, an elementary EVT model is given. Next, the operation modes in an EVT-equipped vehicle are analyzed, and the prototype machine and the test bench with results analysis are presented. It is concluded that EVT can achieve the function of continuously variable transmission and starter and generator which will optimize the operation of internal combustion engine and enhance vehicle performance
