Abstract
The last several years have seen a tremendous proliferation of applications utilizing resources from a distributed system, such as the Internet. Attractive applications include real-time command and control systems, distributed multimedia information systems, e-business infrastructures, telemedicine and manufacturing. Decentralization of applications offers enhanced capabilities such as fast access to remote data and virtually unlimited storage capacity, but significantly complicates the resource management required for quality assurance. Supporting the diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements of distributed applications is a critical and challenging problem involving database, networking and data security technologies. The paper presents a distributed system resource management infrastructure
