Abstract
It is important to manage the network in control systems into which IP (Internet Protocol) is introduced. Construction of a safe control network environment requires observation and understanding of the state of the network. Operators may detect abnormalities in traffic using technology for traffic monitoring. According to the settings of traffic monitoring, the load on the traffic collector may become high and can become a performance bottleneck. It may not be possible to collect all necessary information when the load on the traffic collector increases. We propose a quantitative method for evaluation of traffic measurement for IP-based control systems that involves observing the relation between sampling rate and the load on the traffic collector. This paper discusses the influence of traffic monitoring in control systems.
