  • Abstract
As US WEST developed the new Service Assurance (SA) Center concept, for centralized alarm monitoring, network administration, engineering, and control of all Telecommunications Network Elements (TNE) it became apparent that the personnel developing maintenance databases for monitoring the power alarms had absolutely no idea of the physical or functional characteristics of the hardware required to provide reliable power. Their lack of knowledge included the function of power components, the expected number of the power components, or the working inter-relationships of these components. This document was initially developed to provide guidance to the data basing organization on the structure of power equipment. A list is given of all known power alarm points in use today as well as the analog data points available. As power plants become more sophisticated, there will be new functionality in power equipment-especially in integrated intelligent power plants. It will be the responsibility of developers and users to ensure a uniform definition for all new alarm indicators
