  • Abstract
The Runway Incursion Reduction Program (RIRP) is working in coordination with industry and other Government agencies in research and evaluation of non-developmental items and commercial off-the-shelf technologies in an effort to aid in the reduction of runway incursions. The goals of this effort are to address the following areas of need: (1) seamless coverage-the ability to accurately determine the position of aircraft and vehicles with no gaps in coverage while on the airport surface movement area; (2) shared situational awareness-the ability to provide situational awareness to pilots and vehicle operators as well as controllers; (3) conflict alerting capabilities-the ability to provide conflict alerting capabilities for pilots, vehicle operators, as well as controllers. Engineers involved in the RIRP have conducted evaluations on a prototype demonstration system that has been installed at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport. Preliminary findings gleaned from the processing of the data obtained from those evaluations are presented
