  • Abstract
The performance of location management is an important aspect of mobility management in the LEO systems. Because of the high speed of the satellite, the location management based only on the footprint of the satellite is not efficient as it in the terrestrial networks. This paper introduces a hybrid dynamic location update scheme in LEO networks. The scheme imposes the different strategy to the different mobile users according to their velocity. For the quasi-static terminals, the location update area is comprised of the footprint of the satellite; for the high-speed terminals, the location update area is decided on the movement of the mobile user, for other users, the location update area is decided on the CMR parameters. Through the simulation based on the iridium, we found that the HDLA strategy can efficiently decrease the cost used in location management.
